From now on, instead of NBR's VAT policy, VAT from popular social media like Facebook, search giant Google and online marketplace Amazon will go to the customs department. Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday (November 10) directed the commercial banks to submit the VAT received from the three institutions to Dhaka (South) (Commissioner, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate). According to the Bangladesh Bank's directive, banks were advised to send the VAT deducted at source against the services of such foreign companies including Facebook, Google, Amazon through the authorized dealer bank along with the VAT policy, National Board of Revenue and the concerned VAT agent. However, as per the recent decision, it is suggested to send the prescribed statement of VAT to the Commissioner, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (South).
